2012 FIVB World Congress will be held in USA – Volleyball news
The Federation International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has recently announced that American city of Anaheim will host the 33rd FIVB World Congress, which will be held in mid-September 2012.
This is the third time that FIVB has given the official rights to USA to host the World Congress. Previously, USA became the host of World Congress in 1984 and 1996. The cities of Los Angeles and Atlanta accommodated the dignitaries of volleyball respectively.
Once again, the USA has been chosen to greet 200 delegates from National Volleyball Federations from across the globe. The city of Anaheim is set to welcome the impressive international assembly on its soil.
Anaheim is popular destination in American Volleyball. It is better known for hosting the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Teams. The Sports Arena in Anaheim is used by American National Teams for training purposes.
Anaheim in collaboration with United States Olympic Committee (USOC) is planning to offer a world-class treatment to 250 volleyball notable people, who will be coming to attend the FIVB World Congress next year.
The Mayor of Anaheim, Tom Tait expressed delight that the FIVB has chosen the city to host an important international event. Besides Anaheim, other cities like Zurich and Rome were also under consideration by FIVB to host the World Congress but the final
word was given to American city.
The Chief Executive Officer of USA Volleyball, Mr Doug Beal thanked FIVB for their kind decision.
He said, “On behalf of USA Volleyball, I want to express our sincere thanks to FIVB President Mr. Jizhong Wei and the entire FIVB Board of Administration for their overwhelming support in our bid to host the 33rd FIVB World Congress, an important event in
our sport’s history as it will be an elective Congress replacing Mr. Wei, who will not stand for re-election.”
He further added, “To host this event is a tremendous honour for USA Volleyball and a very positive statement from the FIVB on how it views our ability to conduct prestigious events. As a proud member of NORCECA, USA Volleyball appreciates the support from
our confederation leadership and volleyball federations in our zone.”
The 33 FIVB World Congress will be held after the completion of 2012 London Olympic Games.
