2012 Formula 1 season: One of the most exciting seasons in recent history – Formula 1 news
The exciting 2012 Formula 1 season breaks record for holding six different winners of six Grands Prix so far.
If you count the last two Grands Prix of the 2011 season the total number of different drivers winning Grands Prix becomes eight. Has it been mere coincidence or some other factor is at play. While some of it may be to luck but the main reason behind this
feat is the level of competition.
The 2012 season started with six world champions at the grid. That is a record in itself, the defending back to back two time world champion Sebastian Vettel with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, Mercedes Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus, McLaren’s
Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
All drivers are capable of achieving the title once again and that is what makes the season exciting but if that was not all the new regulations introduced by FIA for the 2012 season made sure that only team does not dominate the season like in 2011. The
Pirelli compounds have helped as well as drivers have found it difficult to adjust to and the quick degradations has lead to various strategies applied to best utilise them.
The gap between all the teams is very tight and the margin of error very thin. Although Button said earlier that the number of winners in the season has made the followers of the sport confused but on the contrary it has made the sport that much more exciting
to watch the competition is fierce and anyone can still grab the title.
McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull and Lotus are clearly ahead of everyone else, but Mercedes is not far behind. Ferrari were the surprise inclusion in the top three as the team had a horrible start to their campaign with a below par car introduced for the season.
The in season Mugello test though provided the team with the time and the opportunity to test their update package which has worked very well for them.
Alonso is now ahead on the leader board with 76 points and the Red Bull duo tied at second with 73 points each. At fourth is McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton with 63, Nico Rosberg at fifth with 59 points and Raikkonen at sixth with 51 points, at seventh is Jenson
Button with 45 points followed by Romain Grosjean at eighth with 35 points and at 9th is Pastor Maldonado with 29 points. At tenth is Sergio Perez with 22 points.
It clearly shows just how close the competitions is from the first to the seventh position the difference is of only 31 points. That puts the Canadian Grand Prix in perspective as it will a good opportunity to the drivers with faster cars to earn points
as the track will provide good long straights.
Whatever the result is of the Canadian GP, the season is bound to remain exciting till the final race.
