2012 French Open: Oliver Roth, Johanna Goliszewski move into second stage of qualifying round
Mixed Doubles experts Oliver Roth and Johanna Goliszewski of Germany had a perfect start of Yonex French Badminton Open as they cleared first hurdle in the qualifying round on October 23, 2012.
They stamped Mathias Quere-Lorraine Baumann by registering a convincing margin of 21-15 and 21-12.
This 23-minute encounter took place in local badminton arena of Paris and a decent number of French supporters were there to encourage the native shuttlers.
However, there was nothing to celebrate as the twosome of Mathias and Lorraine put a below par performance and knelt down in a shameful manner.
On the other hand, the victorious duo showed consistency in their performance and ruled the court in both games.
The German campaigners laid foundation of their supremacy straight away in the beginning and maintained the upper hand until the final moments.
Though, they looked bit confused in the establishing stage of first set as their rivals bagged some valuable points in a row.
Oliver and Johanna remained at lower end until 6-8 total but next couple of rallies saw them in a transformed character.
They claimed four consecutive points and established a decent lead with 10-8 margin. This initial advantage helped them in third quarter of the set and they strengthened their grip with four successive points.
At this stage, the French players showed some spark and levelled the score with 15-15 but it was not enough to stop Oliver-Johanna from a 21-15 win.
Next game remained interesting until the first half as the German shuttlers smacked their competitors with a staggering knock.
Initially, they kept a low profile and played cautiously but then couple of uninterrupted rallies provided them the required momentum.
Oliver and Johanna finished first half by placing an indomitable figure of 11 and then widened the gap by reaching to a commanding score position of 16-7.
This deficit proved final blow for the opposing team as they could not rise until game point situation and surrendered after reading 12-21 margin on the board.
This win took Oliver-Johanna in second stage of qualifying round where they will lock horns with Gaetan Mittelheisser-Emilie Lefel of France.
