2012 French Open: Wang Shixian trounces Wang Lin en route to Women’s Singles pre quarter-finals

World Number five shuttler Wang Shixian of China stamped her compatriot Wang Lin and moved into the pre quarter-finals of Yonex French Badminton Open on October 24, 2012.
This Women’s Singles encounter took place at local badminton complex of Paris and both contenders remained head-to-head for 39 minutes before piling up the final result of 21-15 and 21-17.
Wang Shixian, who holds second spot in the tournament ranking, displayed flawless craft on the court and wrapped this showdown in just two games.
On the other hand, the relatively lower ranked Wang Lin could not show her best when it mattered and crashed out of this Super Series in a woeful manner.
First sign of trouble came for her when she lost the opening game with a huge difference and this immediate blow proved fatal as she could not rise from the dust until the concluding moments of the match.
The first set started with Wang Shixian making swift progress to a commanding score position of 8-6. She did not lose this rhythm and doubled the impact by putting 11-8 margin before the interval.
Though, Wang Lin strived hard to catch her challenger after the mid-game break but she could not hit the mark.
Meanwhile, the opposing shuttler injected more intensity in her attack and raised her lead with 17-11 total.
This development doubled the trouble for Wang Lin and she could not come out of that bad patch until the decisive score of 15-21.
The prime Chinese campaigner Wang Shixian relished full benefits of this timely win and transformed this 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory.
She was bit sluggish in the beginning of second set but then couple of productive rallies provided her the right momentum.
She started the beating after 2-5 and tipped the scale in her favour with 10-6 total. Next seven points were the toughest one of this tie as both shuttlers did not allow each other to make a notable difference.
They remained equal until 17-17 and finally this nerve-racking tussle ended when Wang Shixian registered an overwhelming figure of 21-17.
Now her next task will be to surpass the Japanese player Eriko Hirose in second round of the tournament.
