Paul Stirling, the 21-year-old Irish batsman batted through the innings to lead Middlesex Panthers to a respectable total of 156 for 2 in their stipulated 20 overs. This was stirling’s third successive half century of the 2012 Flt20 campaign.
In reply, Ervine, the former Zimbabwean all-rounder, struck five muscular fours and three lofty sixes in his unbeaten 75 as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 beat the hosts by four wickets, with four balls to spare.
Chasing a competitive target of 157 to win, the tourists lost openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817’s day. The Australian played a blistering knock of 40-runs
in a half-century stand with Ervine to put the tourists in a winning position.
By the time Katich was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maxwell-c60189 did not last long and was back in the pavilion the next over, after scoring only one run from 2 balls.
Ervine however, continued his good form and took the side home with a sweetly timed four off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Murtagh-c2673, on the second ball of the last over.
Toby Ronald-Jones returned with 2 for 44 while Murtahg, Stirling and Berg claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, the Hampshire skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Angus-Robert-Charles-Fraser-c44701, shared half century stands
with AM Rossington (19 off 25 balls) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dawid-Malan-c1344 (30 not out, off 16 balls) to steer the hosts to a par score of 156 for 2. The two wickets Hampshire lost included opener Joe Denly and Rossington.
This was Hampshire’s second defeat of the season. The county has as many victories in their name from five games so far, while one was washed out.
