The cracking action of High Performance Volleyball Championships is set to begin today (Tuesday, July 24) in mid-Western American state Iowa.
The five-day event will be attended by some 117 local and foreign volleyball teams. More specifically, 59 Regional High Performance Teams from 19 USA Volleyball Regions, 31 USAV High Performance teams, and eight foreign teams will jump on board to showcase their volleyball skills this year. The championships will feature competitions for women’s International Junior, Girls’ International Youth, Girls’ National Select, Girls’ National Youth, Boys’ International Youth, Boys’ National and Boys’ Regional teams. Hence the participants of the HPC will be divided into seven divisions.
A maximum of 16 players are allowed to be placed in one team. Each squad will be supervised by one head coach, two assistant coaches, while a chaperone and an athletic trainer will also be attached with the team.
The Iowa Events Centre in Des Moines will create the backdrop for HPC matches. First tournament of the day will start off at 10:30 a.m. (local time). According to the set formula of the competition, teams will play two matches per day in the opening rounds. Each team will get to play at least six matches, whereas most teams will also play between 7 and 10 matches. The best-of-five sets formula will be followed during the HPC matches. First four sets will played to 25 points and a 15-point golden set will be followed in the case of tie.
The opening ceremony of the High Performance Championships will take place at the Iowa Events Centre Ballroom in the evening. U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team outside hitter Angie Forsett will act as the keynote speaker at the opening ceremonies. In addition to Forsett, the Iowa Region Commissioner Lynne Updergraff, Visitors Bureau President/CEO Greg Edwards, Greater Des Moines Convention Centre and USA Volleyball Senior Director Tom Pingel will also speak at the opening ceremonies.
The local organisers have set $10 for a daily pass and $38 for the full tournament pass. However, the young volleyball lovers of ages 12-and-under will be allowed to attend the High Performance Championship free of cost.
The High Performance Championships will conclude on July 28.
