2012 Hong Kong Open: Goh Liu Ying, Lim Yin Loo deliver a stunner in Women’s Doubles event
Women’s Doubles partners Goh Liu Ying and Lim Yin Loo showed superb coordination and marched into the second round of Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open after stamping Christinna Pedersen-Kamilla Rytter Juhl on November 21, 2012.
However, it was not an easy win as the Malaysian campaigners had to sweat hard for 53 minutes to register a favourable result of 12-21, 22-20 and 21-18.
Liu Ying and Yin Loo, who were underrated earlier in this Super Series, rose to prominence after such an emphatic knock in the opening match.
This splendid win led them to the pre quarter-final round where they will lock horns with Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii of Indonesia.
They will utilise the valuable experience of the first round where they thrashed the World Number three Danish team.
Though, they looked a bit confused in the opening game and lost this crucial match point with a huge deficit but the ending two games saw them in a transformed character.
The twosome of Christinna and Kamilla took off in perfect manner as they finished the first set of the match in a favourable manner.
They mounted pressure by putting 11-8 margin on the board and then capitalised this psychological edge to pile up a winning score of 21-12.
However, the story was different in the second set as the Malaysian players struck hard and avoided a straight-set defeat.
This time Liu Ying and Yin Loo played with great control and confidence to counter-balance the situation as they hit the mark in commendable fashion.
They played with a cautious approach in the beginning and enjoyed the upper hand until the figure of 8.
Next couple of rallies saw them making some mistakes which weakened their grip but both female shuttlers revived their lost chemistry when it was needed the most.
Liu Ying and Yin Loo bagged four out of ending five points and placed a tight yet decisive margin of 22-20.
The decider turned into a do or die situation for both teams and they put an honest effort to oust the opponent.
They remained close until final moments and this cliff-hanging tussle ended when Liu Ying-Yin Loo registered an overwhelming score of 21-18.
