2012 Hong Kong Open: Lee Chong Wei casts out Boonsak Ponsana in Men’s Singles opening round
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei took a great start in Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open as he thrashed Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand in the opening round on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.
This Men’s Singles encounter kept both contenders busy on court for 33 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-15 and 21-15.
The badminton king Chong Wei ruled the court in both games and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
World Number one shuttler did not show mercy at any stage of the game and employed all of his brilliance to ensure his presence in the pre quarter-finals.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Thai campaigner failed to rise on his toes and crashed out of this Super Series.
Chong Wei laid the foundation of his dominance straight away in the beginning of the first set and maintained the upper hand all the way to final moments.
In the opening game, he prevailed in few consecutive rallies and established an unassailable lead with a decent total of 5.
He did not drop his pace and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the one-minute interval. This initial advantage proved decisive factor in later part of the game as the Malaysian maestro swept the table with a notable difference.
Though, Boonsak strived hard to narrow the gap but he had to give up this futile chase after reading 15-21 score on the board.
The following game remained interesting just until half time as it proved a dead contest after the mid-game break.
Chong Wei kept a low profile in the beginning and allowed his opponent to stay close on the points table but he struck hard when it mattered and locked the honour.
In first half of the set, Boonsak showed some spark and dazzled his competitor with couple of productive rallies.
The Thai player competed with great conviction and matched his rival’s skills all the way to one-minute break.
However, he could not go with the same flow and surrendered tamely in front of Chong Wei in later part of the game.
Chong Wei placed a winning margin of 21-15 and qualified for the pre quarter-finals of 2012 Hong Kong Open.
