2012 ICC World T20: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 V Ireland – Toss Report – Porterfield opts to bat
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 opener against Australia, being played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today, September 19, 2012.
The Australians have picked up young seamers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maxwell-c60189 and Cameron White.
The semi-professional Irish outfit is however, unchanged from the line-up that clinched a five-run win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the final warm-up, at Colombo (Moors) on Monday.
Australia are currently ranked just a spot above Ireland on the ICC T20 rankings, and considering the former’s unimpressive stats in the shortest format of the game, many are expecting today’s match to be a close encounter.
George Bailey and his men come into the match at the back of an unimpressive T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033, earlier this month. The Kangaroos lost the first two games of the three-T20 series quite comprehensively, before making a strong comeback in the final encounter, clinching a comprehensive 94-run victory. The Super Over defeat in the second match at Dubai, also saw the mighty Aussies slipping behind the Irish outfit on the ICC T20 rankings, though they regained the No. 9 position with a win in the next match.
George Bailey however is not reading too much into his side’s past T20 performances and is confident they will do well in the marquee tournament.
The weather in Colombo is fine, with scattered white clouds. The Premadasa wicket is expected to favour spinners early in the tournament, but it also has something to offer to the batsmen.
