2012 Iceland International: Chou Tien Chen moves forward to pre quarter-final round
Men’s Singles campaigner Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei played impeccable badminton and earned a spot in the pre quarter-finals of Iceland International on Friday, November 9, 2012.
He was up against the British shuttler Robert Cooper who surrendered after resisting for 23 minutes.
Tien Chen, who holds top spot in the tournament ranking, cleared his first hurdle with a significant result of 21-13 and 21-11.
The World Number 33 Taipei player relished full benefits of his experience and brilliance in the game to wrap this showdown in just two games.
He laid the foundation of his dominance by clinching first match point with a huge a difference and then served notice of his supremacy with a gutsy knock in second set.
In the opening game, Tien Chen did not give his rival enough time to get settled and confounded him with a brisk attack.
The British campaigner had no reply to this intensive invasion and he remained at the lower end in most part of the game.
Tien Chen mounted pressure by gathering some consecutive points in the beginning and then capitalised this psychological edge to pile up an indomitable figure of 11.
He did not lose focus even after the mid-game break and widened the gap with few productive rallies.
Meanwhile, Robert Cooper made every effort to counter-balance the situation but he could not hit the mark until game point situation.
Finally, he had to give up this futile chase after scoreboard flashed the decisive figure of 21-13.
The following game was also played in similar fashion as the Taipei shuttler ruled the court and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
This time Tien Chen gained an early advantage by prevailing in the establishing rallies as he kept his competitor busy just in returning his masterly crafted strokes.
He finished first half of the set with a decent total of 11 and then strengthened his grip in third quarter of the set.
Tien Chen carried this rhythm until last shot was played and registered an overwhelming score of 21-11.
Now he is scheduled to meet Rasmus Holmboe Dahl of Denmark in the pre quarter-final round of this International Series.
