Korea’s spirited shuttler Ha Young Woong registered his presence in the Iceland International as he secured a quarter-final berth in Men’s Singles event on Friday, November 9, 2012.
He outclassed a higher ranked opponent Marius Myhre by piling up final figures of 21-13 and 21-19.
Though, this crucial battle concluded in just two games but still the victorious shuttler had to wait for 31 minutes to claim the victory.
The Korean campaigner, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, showed maturity in his craft and wrapped this showdown in a favourable manner.
He laid foundation of his supremacy straight away in the beginning of opening game and kept his challenger under control all the way to final moments.
Ha Young made his intentions clear when he confined Marius in the rear court with his power packed strokes.
His intensive attack helped him gain an early advantage and he did not find any trouble to pile up an indomitable total of 11.
After the mid-game break, the Norwegian shuttler made swift progress and narrowed the gap but this short campaign did not make any impact on the score position.
In third quarter of the set, Marius committed some mistakes and allowed his competitor to bounce back into the contest.
The Korean player played with great precision and tipped the scale in his favour with a staggering knock of 21-13.
This timely win boosted his confidence and he played with even more conviction in the following game.
Ha Young took some time to read his rival’s game but then couple of productive rallies took him to a commanding position.
He bagged valuable points at steady pace and placed a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
Though, some unforced errors weakened his grip in later part of the game but Ha Young did not lose heart and counter-balanced the situation.
On the other hand, Marius frittered away his efforts in the pressure situation and surrendered after reading 19-21 margin on the board.
This win ensured Ha Young’s presence in the quarter-finals where he will lock horns with Nikita Khakimov of Russia.
