Question:

2012 Is a Fat Lie?

Alright, I am just sick of people getting afraid of the so- called "final year" 2012. First of all the year 2012 marks the end of the 13th Baktun Cycle for the mayan people. On Dec. 21, 2012, the current one will end and a new (#14) Baktun Cycle will begin.

The last time a Baktun Cycle ended was on Sep.18, 1618, now ask yourself this: did any catastrophic event happen in 1618?, nope.

Whenever we are going through bad times and such, people tend to say that the endtimes are comming, and thus look for reasons to make books so they can support themselves & their lifestyle, so they live off of people's fear.

As for the so-called "bible code" goes, it predicts that an astroid will destroy the earth in 2012, well that same book (later made into a t.v. show) predicted the world would end on 2006, well here we are in 2008, no end times or nothing,

  1. I guess we'll never know for sure until 2012 will we.  The Bible says to think not of tommorow for tommorow may never come so live for today.

  2. no sweat they predicted it in 1999 and 2002

I think what WILL cause the end of HUMAN existence, is not a bunch of numbers, but our polluting of the planet.

i hope you all do your part and think of doing more

  3. I graduate in 2012 too!

I don't beleive in any of it. People back then can;t predict the end of the world any better then we can. if I wrote a book the claimed the earth was to end tomorrow everyone would freak, but ti wouldn't happen. People need to stop looking for the end of times and enjoy what they have. Crazy people....

  4. Well 1st of all, are you Mayan.. J/K.  I'd never even heard of THAT one until I came on here.  But you're right.  Nothing happened the last cycle.  It's just people spreading fear.

I'm old enough to tell you 'doomsday' prophets and phonies have been telling us 'the world is going to end' about 25 times in my lifetime, and they never did.  The dates always came and went.

Remember the 'year 2000' scare.. same thing.  And when you're a dad and a grandad, you'll still be hearing about these things, trust me.  Glad you're mature enough not to be silly enough to buy into it.

    Cheers.

  5. . . . this is not a question but i graduate on 2012! so i think its going to be a very happy year!

  6. oh man, i hope so.

i need to do so many things before i die.

  7. Of course it is a hoax.Everything these cranks predict is easy to debunk. Its gullible people who doesnt understand enough about science that fall for their lies and big words. The astronomy and space section is bombarded with 2012 questions everyday. Most people in A&S have wrote out very good scientific answer and they copy and paste. What most people dont understand is the things that truely are threats in 2012 are threats today and will be long after 2012.

  8. I've never heard of 2012 being the "final year". I agree you about whenever we are going through hard times that these theories start to surface.

When we approached year 2000 all the nuclear weapons were going to go off & all computers would stop working... yadda yadda yadda.... 2006 Also rings a bell for supposed to have been doomsday, yet we are still here. Also, every other year you hear something about Nostradamus (sp?) having predicted the end of the world.

I believe that if/when it happens it won't be for a while yet, and that we should enjoy each day as best as we can.
