2012 Japan Open: Priscilla Lun surrenders as Eriko Tamaki thunders in qualifying round
It was a disappointing outing for Priscilla Lun in Yonex Japan Open as she failed to live up to the billing and crashed out after losing to Eriko Tamaki in qualifying round on September 12, 2012.
This Women’s Singles meeting ended in just two sets with scoreboard flashing final result of 21-11 and 21-12.
Lun, who belongs to USA, failed to rise when it mattered and faced a shameful defeat at the hands of Eriko Tamaki who looked on top throughout this 21 minute meeting.
A decent crowd assembled in Yoyogi National Stadium of Tokyo to appreciate both contenders for their great fighting spirit which they showed all the way to the climax.
The local girl did not show any sign of confusion in front of the experienced Lun and played confidently in both segments of the showdown.
Eriko employed interesting tactics as she kept a low profile in the beginning but then took control after a couple of initial strokes.
She started the beating after 5-5 and established her grip over the game with four uninterrupted rallies.
She was too hot to handle as Lun could not came back from behind and remained at the lower end until the interval.
After one-minute break, they made every effort to overpower each other but the Japanese contender did not lose nerve and survived this edgy battle.
Though, Lun unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes but it was not enough to surprise the opposing shuttler who was well prepared for such intensive attack.
Eriko managed to rise from the dust in the final moments and smacked her competitor down with a striking knock of 21-11.
The second segment of this show made the crowd gasp as both opponents swung their arms and legs to the maximum as they made this a memorable meeting.
In the beginning, Lun started with full force and pushed the Japanese girl on the back-foot but there was nothing to do in later part of the game as Eriko did not provide any loop-hole and saved some honour.
She remained nine steps ahead of Lun and raised her hands as Champion with a significant margin of 21-12.
