Indonesia’s Aprilla Yuswandari has alarmed all the contestants of Korea Grand Prix Gold with an emphatic knock in the opening round of Women’s Singles event on December 5, 2012.
World Number 35 shuttler, who holds second spot in the tournament ranking, sealed a straight-set win over Anna Astrakhantseva of Russia and marched into the pre quarter-final round.
Aprilla looked in sublime touch as she did not give her rival even a single counterattack opportunity and wrapped this showdown with an impressive result of 21-6 and 21-9.
The Russian campaigner proved a sitting duck throughout this crucial match as the opposing shuttler hunt her down with great ease.
Anna, who was an unseeded player in this GP Gold event, could not handle the pressure and knelt down tamely. She remained inactive in most part of this battle and lost both sets with huge deficits.
In the opening game, Anna did not find any chance to proceed on the points table as her higher ranked competitor put her expedition to halt with some power packed rallies.
Aprilla played with an authoritative approach from very first stroke and kept her opponent at the lower end until the game point situation.
She started mounting pressure with couple of consecutive points in the beginning and then doubled the impact by piling up a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
After the one-minute break, she displayed tremendous control and confounded Anna with a flurry of well placed strokes.
The Indonesian shuttler gathered some pace and widened the gap in third quarter of the set. She won this set with a 15-point lead in 21-6 margin.
Next game was also a one-sided affair as the Russian challenger could not end her bad patch and crashed out of this event after facing a straight-set defeat.
On the other hand, Aprilla employed all of her brilliance in the game and locked a seat in the pre quarter-final round.
She established an unassailable lead immediately in the beginning and maintained this edge throughout the second set.
She played impeccable badminton and raised hands as victor after putting 21-9 score on the board.
