2012 Korea Open: Aprilla Yuswandari remains invincible in Women’s Single quarter-finals
Indonesia’s talented campaigner Aprilla Yuswandari continued her unbeatable run in the Korea Grand Prix Gold and powered her way to the semi-final round on Friday, December 7, 2012.
She stamped Chi Ya Cheng in a quarter-final match that remained in full swing for 70 minutes before ending with final figures of 17-21, 21-12 and 22-20.
This hard fought tussle took place in the local badminton arena of Hwasun-gun, Korea and a decent number of spectators assembled to appreciate both contenders.
The Indonesian shuttler took some time to get on right track as she lost the opening game but then she managed to counterbalance the situation in the following games.
On the other hand, Chi Ya put a fluctuated performance which ultimately led her to a woeful exit from this GP Gold event.
However, the Taipei player had her moments in this encounter as the first set completely belonged to her.
She started the beating from very first stroke and played with similar aggression until last shot was played.
In the establishing rallies, she employed all of her brilliance in the game and made a notable difference on the points table.
Chi Ya finished first half of the set with a favourable score position of 11 and then capitalised this advantage to place an overwhelming margin of 21-17.
However, she failed to go with same flow in the following segments of the showdown as Aprilla came in her way and put her expedition to halt.
This time it was the Indonesian shuttler’s turn to rule the court and she did not lose grip over game.
World Number 36 Aprilla, who is also the second seeded player in this tournament, played with an authoritative approach and brought the contest to right balance with a staggering knock of 21-12.
With such an emphatic comeback, she started the decider in high spirit and confounded her rival with an amazing craft on the court.
She kick-started her campaign with few productive rallies and got into commanding position way before the half time.
Though, she lost focus for a short span of time but still managed to seal a splendid win with 22-20 score.
Now her next challenger will be Sonia Su Ya Cheah in the semi-final round of this prestigious tournament.
