2012 Korea Open: Shin Baek Choel, Eom Hye Won continue their unbeatable run in second round
Mixed Doubles partners Shin Baek Choel and Eom Hye Won showed superb coordination in the second round of Korea Grand Prix Gold and ensured their presence in the quarter-final round on December 6, 2012.
They overwhelmed Chia Bin Lu-Chi Ya Cheng of Chinese Taipei in a hard fought tussle which kept them head-to-head for 64 minutes. Both teams made the crowd gasp while piling up the final figures of 19-21, 22-20 and 21-16.
The Korean duo displayed great fighting spirit as they did lose heart after going down in the opening game and locked the honour by prevailing the ending two sets.
On the other hand, the partnership of Chia Bin and Chi Ya could not flourish when it was needed the most and crashed out of this GP Gold event in a disgraceful manner.
World Number 52 pair Baek Choel-Hye Won, who holds fourth spot in the tournament ranking, looked bit off colour in first set of as both shuttlers could not forge a fruitful chemistry and lost this valuable match point.
They took off in perfect manner but then couple of unforced errors brought them down. Their challengers did not squander this opportunity and cast them out with a staggering knock.
Chia Bin and Chi Ya showed strong character in the pressure situation and finished this game with a tight yet favourable margin of 21-19.
However, it proved their last success in this prestigious tournament as the higher ranked Korean campaigners stormed back with a strong reply.
Initially, Baek Choel and Hye Won took some time to revive their lost form but they managed to end this bad patch before the half time.
They dominated the overall pace of rallies immediately after the break and gained a decent advantage on points table.
Though, they lost focus in third quarter of the set but few uninterrupted points reinstated their supremacy.
The Korean shuttlers levelled the match score by winning second set with 22-20 margin.
This timely win boosted their confidence and they sealed a much desired victory in a commendable manner.
Baek Choel and Hye Won played with great precision and claimed the final match point with 21-16 total.
