2012 Korea Open: Sung Ji Hyun outshines Kim Ye Ji to march into final round of Women’s Singles event
Women’s Singles expert Sung Ji Hyun lived up to her billing and thrashed Kim Ye Ji in the semi-final round of Korea Grand prix Gold to qualify for the title match on December 8, 2012.
This short-lived tussle held at the local badminton complex of Hwasun-gun where a huge crowd gathered to encourage both native shuttlers.
Ji Hyun employed all of her brilliance and experience in the game to safeguard her stakes in this GP Gold event.
World Number eight shuttler proved herself superior in all departments of the game and sealed a straight-set win with 21-10 and 21-9 margin.
The Korean badminton queen looked completely on song as she did not give her rival even a single opportunity to rise and cast her out with a marvelous performance.
She did not allow Ye Ji to get settled and put her under huge pressure with an immediate lead in first set.
Her intensive attack confined the other Korean campaigner in rear court and Ji Hyun clinched a commanding position on the points table. She played with similar aggression until half time and piled up a mountainous figure of 11.
After the mid-game break, she prevailed in couple of uninterrupted rallies and widened the gap in no time.
This difference proved the decisive factor as Ye Ji never came out of this deficit and surrendered after reading 10-21 score on the board.
She could not end her bad patch also in the following game and crashed out of the home event in a disgraceful manner.
First sign of trouble came for her when the opposing shuttler registered a respectable total without any delay and then doubled the pressure with few consecutive points before the interval.
Ji Hyun capitalised her initial advantage and strengthened her grip over game in third quarter of the set.
She pushed her competitor in all areas of the court and gained significant margin of 12 points. This unconquerable lead helped her to place a concluding margin of 21-9.
Now Ji Hyun is scheduled to face Aprilla Yuswandari of Indonesia in the title match of this esteemed tournament.
