Women’s Singles shuttler Sung Ji Hyun relished full benefits of home ground and defeated Na Ra Jung in the second round of Korea Grand Prix Gold on Thursday, December 6, 2012.
Though, this tussle ended in just two games but still Ji Hyun had to sweat hard to read a favourable margin of 24-22 and 21-12.
World Number eight Korean campaigner, who is the top seeded player in this GP Gold event, secured a quarter-final berth with this splendid victory and now she is scheduled to meet Jiayuan Chen of Singapore.
Ji Hyun will go all out to stretch her winning streak and her valuable experience, which she has earned through an unbeatable run in the preliminary stages, will really help her to excel in this race of glory.
In the pre quarter-final match, she employed all of her brilliance in the game against the compatriot shuttler and her honest effort yielded good result.
Though, Ji Hyun took some time to read her rival’s game but still she did not allow Na Ra to proceed on the points table.
She played cautiously in the establishing rallies and gradually established a strong grip over game.
Meanwhile, the other Korean shuttler also displayed commendable fighting spirit and remained close until the mid-game break.
Na Ra, who was an unseeded player in this tournament, showed some spark in third quarter of the set and prevailed in couple of uninterrupted rallies.
However, her supremacy was short-lived as Ji Hyun struck hard when it mattered and tipped the scale in her favour. She bagged most of the ending points and registered a winning margin of 24-22.
The following game had nothing for Na Ra as it was completely dominated by the National Number one Ji Hyun.
She established an unassailable lead without any delay and maintained that upper hand all the way to final moments.
She put her challenger under huge pressure by clinching valuable points in a row and then magnified the impact with an indomitable total of 11.
The Korean badminton queen raised hands as victor after putting 21-12 score on the board and qualified for the quarter-final round.
