2012 London Olympic Games ready to start in London – Volleyball News

Finally the wait is over and the largest sports gala of the world is ready to take centre stage in London. The 2012 London Olympic Games are scheduled to be kicked off on July 27, while the volleyball tournament will be opened on July 28 with the women’s
matches.
This is not the first time that the Great Britain will provide backdrop for the Olympic Games, but the city of London hosted the Olympic Games in 1908 as well as in 1948. London city created an excellent field of play for the Olympic Games during the previous
two editions. Furthermore, the Olympic Games are here for the third time this year.
The Women’s Olympic Volleyball Tournament is supposed to receive a total of twelve teams including the hosts Great Britain. The home team earned a spot on account of being the host nation, while rest of the eleven teams had to go through the qualification
phase.
In addition to Great Britain, teams from Italy, United States, China, Algeria, Dominican Republic, Turkey, Brazil, Russia, South Korea, Serbia, and Japan will be on board to vie for the Olympic title.
The Olympic Qualification phase started off in 2011 and recently completed its run in May 2012. The 2012 FIVB Women’s World Cup served as the first qualifying event for the Olympics. A total of sixteen teams from all around the world contested their skills
and top three teams secured a trip to London. Those lucky teams were Italy, United States, and China as they finished first, second, and third, respectively.
Next up the Continental Qualification Phase started off and Algeria reserved an Olympic seat via African Qualification Tournament. Later on, Dominican Republic joined the Olympic qualifiers through North American Qualification Tournament.
Turkey came from European Olympic Qualification Tournament, while Brazil earned the qualification berth through South American Tournament.
FIVB World Qualification, which was played in association with the Asian Qualification Tournament, was the last big event that helped four teams to advance to the 2012 London Olympic Games. Russia, South Korea, Serbia, and Japan were the last teams to join
the 2012 Olympics.
Now that the grid of 12 teams has been finalised, the thrilling action of women’s Olympic Volleyball tournament is set to be opened on July 28. Check back for more news and updates.
