2012 MBBC Jr. International: Anne Klyve, Marie Waland cement spot in Girl’s Doubles semi-finals
Norway’s Anne Klyve and Marie Waland led their country to semi-finals of Girl’s Doubles Under-19 category in MBBC Jr. International on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
They thrashed Mikeila Carrington-Monyata Riviera of Barbados by registering 21-16 and 21-19 in just two games.
This Group B match, which was equal to quarter-finals, was played at Manhattan Beach, California, USA and considerable number of people assembled to enjoy this battle.
The victorious duo played with great precision and setup next clash with Lynn Wang-Erin Yokote in second last round of the tournament.
Anne Klyve and Marie Waland made their intentions clear straight away in opening game when they clinched four consecutive points after 2-2.
They carried this rhythm in the next couple of rallies and cornered their challengers with 8-4 margin. They lost focus for short span of time but then got back on track with 11-8 score before the interval.
There was lot of fireworks immediately after one-minute break as the opposing team built pressure with a swift progress and reached at fighting position of 13-14.
The Barbados shuttlers made every effort to catch their competitors but they failed to match their speed in final stage of the game.
Meanwhile, Anne-Marie doubled their lead with couple of uninterrupted rallies and when their opponents tried to step forward they stamped them with an overwhelming figure of 21-16.
Next set of the match proved a neck-and-neck contest as both teams played their heart out to achieve their respective goals.
In first half, Mikeila-Monyata looked a bit confused as they committed some unforced errors and allowed their rivals to establish a comfortable lead.
However, they managed to rise on their toes after 3-6 and prevailed in four uninterrupted rallies. They leapt forward at steady pace until 9-7 but then some fatal mistakes triggered the collapse.
The twosome of Anne and Marie finished the first half as leading contender by putting respectable margin of 11-10.
Later part of the game heated up when both couples injected more intensity in their campaigns and remained close all the way to game point situation.
Finally, this race ended when the Norwegian duo placed a winning score of 21-19.
