2012 Macau Open: Eom Hye Won, Jang Ye Na gain access to Women’s Doubles final round
Women’s Doubles experts, Eom Hye Won and Jang Ye Na forged a fruitful chemistry in the semi-final round and escorted Korea to the finals of Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold on December 1, 2012.
They were up against the Indonesian duo Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth-Rizki Amelia Pradipta and their encounter lasted for 41 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-19 and 21-14.
The Korean team which is the top seeded pair of this tournament took some time to get on the right track but still managed to cruise to a splendid victory.
Hye Won and Ye Na were a bit sluggish in the establishing rallies of the first game as they could not move swiftly across the court and dropped many valuable points.
Meanwhile, Pia Zebadiah and Rizki Amelia capitalised their rivals’ blunders and established a decent lead in no time.
They maintained the upper hand in the next couple of rallies but then a few back-to-back mistakes brought them down. They could not rise from the dust until game point situation and lost this crucial set.
On the other hand, Hye Won and Ye Na started the beating after 9-11 and managed to establish a respectable lead with 15-11 margin.
They showed consistency in their performance and strengthened the grip over game with a decent total of 18-14.
The Korean team relished full benefits of this four-point advantage and swept the table with a tight yet favourable score of 21-19.
Next game kept the audience intact until mid-game break but it proved a one-sided affair in second half of the set.
Initially, the Indonesian campaigners played with great conviction and piled up a decent figure of 5-2.
At this stage, the opposing team gathered some pace and levelled the score at 8-8. Both Korean shuttlers showed superb coordination and placed a mountainous total of 11 before one-minute interval.
Later part of the game was completely dominated by Hye Won and Ye Na as they did not give their competitors even a single counter-attack opportunity and won this valuable match point with 21-14 margin.
Now they will face the compatriot duo Choi Hye In-Kim So Young in the title match of this GP Gold event.
