2012 Macau Open: R. M. V. Gurusaidutt escorts India to semi-finals of Men’s Singles event
India’s inexperienced but talented shuttler R. M. V. Gurusaidutt continued his unbeatable run and secured a semi-final berth in the Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold on November 30, 2012.
He intercepted Chan Yan Kit in a 34-minute match that ended in just two games with a concluding margin of 21-11 and 21-14.
The Indian campaigner played with great control throughout this tussle and sealed a splendid straight-set win.
On the other hand, Yan Kit looked completely confused as he failed to pocket even a single match point and crashed out of this GP Gold event.
Gurusaidutt, who holds the 12th spot in the tournament ranking, started the beating straight away in the beginning of first set and kept playing with an authoritative approach until the final moments.
He laid the foundation of his supremacy by prevailing in five consecutive rallies and then capitalised this initial lead to pile up an indomitable figure of 9-2.
Though, Yan Kit showed some class in next couple of rallies and narrowed the gap but he could not tip the scale in his favour.
Few back-to-back unforced errors weakened his grip and he finished first half of the set with 7-11 score on the board.
Latter part of the game saw Gurusaidutt changing his tactics as he enthralled his challenger with a fine blend of power packed smashes and drop net shots. He maintained a huge lead of ten points and swept the table with a significant total of 21-11.
The second set of the match kept swinging between both contenders until half time as neither of them could make a notable difference on the points table.
However, Gurusaidutt showed superior finishing skills and sent Yan Kit packing with a staggering knock.
The young Indian shuttler looked a bit off colour in the beginning but he still managed to stay close until mid-game break.
After the interval, Gurusaidutt gathered some pace and widened the gap with few consecutive points.
He bagged seven out of ending eight points and registered an overwhelming score of 21-14. Now he will lock horns with Chen Yuekun to gain access to the final round.
