2012 Macau Open: Saya Yamamoto tames Shih Han Hung in Women’s Singles qualifying round
Women’s Singles shuttler Saya Yamamoto played with great precision and thrashed Shih Han Hung in the qualifying round of Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold on November 27, 2012.
This epic tussle prolonged for 31 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-18 and 21-19. Both contenders earned great deal of admiration and respect for putting a commendable show of badminton craft.
However, the Japanese campaigner displayed superior finishing skills and registered a straight-set victory.
On the other hand, the Taipei player had to face an early exit despite having better odds in this race for glory.
Saya Yamamoto, who was an unseeded shuttler in this prestigious event, served notice of her potential straight away in the first set.
She kept a low profile in the establishing rallies and allowed her rival to enjoy a decent lead. She started the beating after 5-5 and established her grip over game with 8-5 total.
At this stage, the inexperienced Saya Yamamoto showed great maturity in her game plan and confounded the opposing shuttler with a fine blend of power packed strokes and deceiving drop net shots.
She finished the first half of the set with a respectable figure of 11 and then capitalised this initial advantage in later part of the game.
Though, Han Hung showed some spark after the mid-game break and brought life back into the contest but it was not enough to counter-balance the situation.
The Japanese campaigner bagged six out of ending nine points and placed a winning margin of 21-18.
Next game kept swinging between both contenders until the final moments as they made every effort to achieve their respective goals.
Initially, Saya Yamamoto relished full benefits of her first set win and gained an early advantage. She made a notable difference with 3-0 and then widened the gap by putting 6-1 total on the board.
However, the Taipei player geared herself up and managed to place a significant figure of 11 before the interval.
She enjoyed the upper hand until 19-16 but then couple of unforced errors brought her down. Saya Yamamoto made the best out of her competitor’s blunders and sealed her victory with a 21-19 score.
