2012 Macau Open: Yu Sun stamps Malvinne Ann Venice Alcala in Women’s Singles qualifying round
Women’s Singles expert Yu Sun of China displayed unbeatable craft on the court and claimed her first win in the qualifying round of Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold on November 27, 2012.
She overpowered Malvinne Ann Venice Alcala of Philippines in a 32-minute encounter which ended with decisive figures of 21-9 and 21-16.
The Chinese campaigner established her grip by clinching the opening match point on merit and then served the notice of her supremacy by sealing a straight-set victory.
On the other hand, Malvinne Ann looked completely out of touch as she failed to pocket even a single match point and crashed out of this Grand Prix Gold event.
Yu Sun made her intentions clear immediately in the beginning of first set as she launched a brisk attack and bagged many valuable points.
She dominated the overall pace of establishing rallies and piled up an indomitable total of 8-1. She capitalised this initial advantage and got into commanding position with 11-3 margin before the interval.
Later part of the game saw Yu Sun in prime touch as she did not make even a single mistake and outclassed her competitor.
The Chinese shuttler widened the gap by registering 15-5 score in third quarter of the set and then maintained the upper hand until last shot was played.
This huge deficit proved final blow for Malvinne Ann as she could not rise on her toes and surrendered after reading 9-21 margin.
However, the following game was not a one-sided affair as Malvinne Ann showed some spark and earned great deal of respect for putting an honest effort.
In the first half of the set, Yu Sun ruled the court and placed a decent total of 11 before the one-minute break.
At this stage, the opposing shuttler clinched few points in a row and levelled the score 13-13. Both contenders strived hard to oust the opponent and this cliff-hanging game ended when Yu Sun stole the limelight with an impressive knock of 21-16.
Now the Chinese player will be up against Nagisa Shiozawa to gain access to the main draw of this GP Gold event.
