2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training – Cactus League Update – Part 1
A quick glance at the current standings for the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Cactus League shows some unique surprises. As close to half of the Spring Training already done and the regulars season creeping ever so close, it looks like many
interesting observations can be made as most teams have had a decent chance to show their talents off so far.
As of March 18, 2012 the Oakland Athletics are leading the pack ahead of powerhouse teams like the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners. It seems that the Athletics have made the right offseason moves and balanced
their team to become much more competitive this year. Athletics’ players like Coco Crisp and Jemile Weeks are beginning to show their talents as Spring Training progresses. The addition of Yoenis Cespedes in the line-up is something that the team is looking
carefully at over the next few games. Cespedes is relatively inexperienced when it comes to playing baseball in America. However, once he gets going, the Athletics will get even stronger and put up a good show at the beginning of the regular season.
The San Francisco Giants are also looking very good during Spring Training. The return of their catcher and star player Buster Posey is definitely something that the team missed out on last season when he was injured. The Giants have an extremely talented
team with some very decent depth. The team can easily take on and compete with some of the other top tier clubs in the League. Players like pitcher Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain are looking to put in a good performance for the Giants during Spring Training. Also,
Buster Posey is hoping that he has fully healed from this nasty injury last season and that he will be able to make a positive impact for the Giants.
With all of the controversy regarding the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team is looking very good during Spring Training. It is good to see that the franchise issues are not affecting the players and their performance. The team is packed with some
enormous talent that can easily turn the tide in favour of the Dodgers. Players like Matt Kemp, Ted Lilly, Clayton Kershaw and others will be looking to put in a good performance during the rest of the Spring Training to build up some much needed momentum
to carry into the regular season. Regardless of the outcome from the sale of the team, the Dodgers are usually always competitive and this year is no different.
Another team with a decent Spring Training showing so far is the Seattle Mariners. The team seems to have found the ideal rotation and line-up. The Mariners are a very talented team as players like Jason Vargas, Felix Hernandez and the extremely talented
Ichiro Suzuki are hopeful of having a very successful season this year. If the Mariners can keep up their momentum and keep on winning during Spring Training, it will give some of the other teams a reason to take notice as they look strong this year. The team
will be hoping that their players stay healthy and fit for the start of the regular season. The Mariners are a strong team which should not be underestimated this year.
The Cactus League is proving to be exciting as the teams battle it out for supremacy before the regular season. If the first few weeks of Spring Training are any type of indication it looks like the regular season is going to exciting to watch.
