2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training – Grapefruit League Update – Part 1
As the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training continues to move forward, the Grapefruit League table is indicating some exciting and unique trends. As the regular season is quickly approaching, most teams are looking to dominate in Spring Training to
show off their talents to other clubs in the League.
As of March 18, 2012 the Detroit Tigers are sitting at the top of the Grapefruit League table for Spring Training. To most analysts and critics, this not really a surprise as the Tigers are a tremendous team with a huge amount of talented players. Their
recent acquisition of slugger Prince Fielder is something that made the whole League take notice. The Tigers have seemingly put together a very powerful team to take on the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox this year. It is obvious that the Tigers want to
win and their current performance in Spring Training is a clear indication of that. Players like Justin Verlander, Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and Austin Jackson will ensure that the Tigers are at the top and dominate during the upcoming regular season.
The Toronto Blue Jays are looking very good during Spring Training this year. They are currently sitting in a very good position as they are showing the rest of the Grapefruit League as to how talented they actually are. Yunel Escobar, Jose Bautista, J.P.
Arencibia and Ricky Romero have really come together and are playing like a team during Spring Training. Although the Blue Jays are dominating the Grapefruit League, it should not be taken as a clear cut indication that the regular season will be the same
for the team. Spring Training allows most teams to try different players in their line-ups and get some game time for the younger members of their squads. However, the Blue Jays are showing great form and they will be hoping to carry this momentum forward
in to the regular season.
After their disastrous ending to their 2011 regular season, where the Boston Red Sox collapsed and lost an opportunity to make it to the postseason, the team is showing signs of greatness once again during Spring Training. The Red Sox made various changes
to the franchise and it looks like these are making a significant difference as they seem to be back to their winning ways. Boston has some incredible depth to their line-up with the likes of David Ortiz, Carl Crawford, Dustin Pedroia and Clay Buchholz. The
team will be hoping that their players can stay healthy and continue to play aggressive baseball until the start of the arduous regular season.
Having a new stadium and changing their outlook, the Miami Marlins are looking very competitive this year in the Grapefruit League of Spring Training. The Marlins seem to have found some renewed energy as they are hitting their groove on the field. The pitching
is strong with the likes of Mark Buehrle, Anibal Sanchez and Carlos Zambrano as their line-up has the depth with Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez and Mike Stanton putting in a decent effort. The Marlins will be hoping for a decent Spring Training result as they
get ready for the regular season which is right around the corner.
The Grapefruit League is looking very competitive this year as Spring Training has a short time left before the start of the regular season. The teams are all looking for some success to build some much needed confidence and increase their winning ways.
