2012 NFL Scouting Combine due in Indianapolis next week to showcase over 300 football prospects – NFL News
The annual event of the National Football League (NFL) Scouting Combine that showcases top football prospects for the professional league in front of their potential suitors is scheduled at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis from February 22 to 28, 2012.
This is the strongest show-off of the American football players from the college league, who hold the prospects and are willing to become professional football players, potentially signed by any of the 32 franchises on the NFL.
Leading players from the college league take part in games and prove their talents and skills to watchful candidates through other ways, who then make their choice about the players based on their performance and potential.
Owners, managers, coaches, teams’ officials, football experts and other prominent figures from the football community, including top-performing current NFL players, attend the event and contribute towards final decision making about the prospective players
by teams’ owners and managers.
As many as 300 top class college football league players are expected to participate in this year’s Combine. Almost all of them have expressed their interest of going pro provided they find a team to join and play.
To know this, they will have to wait for the start of draft season, which begins in April every year. It is the major source of recruitment of players from the college league to professional league.
This year’s top seeded college players are Stanford College’s quarterback, Andrew Luck, and Baylor’s, Robert Griffin III, and according to the NFL rules the Indianapolis Colts are eligible to sign any of them.
The league’s rules state that the team who finishes a season at the bottom on its points table qualifies for the top draft prize in the next season. Colts finished their 2011 NFL season run with only two wins and now have the rights to take either Luck or
Griffin on board.
Both the players have announced to go pro when the next season starts and are hoping they will be signed by Colts or any other team from the league, if Colts decide otherwise.
They are expected a decision at the start of the draft season and are appearing at the Scouting Combine as preparations towards the same aim.
Draft season starts in April every year. Prior to that, a mock draft exercise begins in November, when the NFL regular season is almost half-way through.
Football commentators and punters weigh and rate players from the college league based on their performance at their respective teams, giving a sense of direction to teams from the professional league and help them in their final decision making about the
potential players.
For example, a majority of football commentators agree that Andrew Luck is this year’s top prospect, while they also believe that Griffin III is not far away in his chances of fetching a place with any team on the league as a top notch player.
