2012 NFL draft: Indianapolis Colts pick QB Andrew Luck to overall No. 1 position-NFL News
It is all over for the Indianapolis Colts’ as far as problems around the quarterback situation are concerned, as the team after having kept the issue alive in headlines since their former QB, Peyton Manning, missed first game of his career in September 2011
due to a neck injury, has finally found a solution in form of Andrew Luck to the pertaining matter.
Former Stanford College’s QB, Luck, was drafted by Colts as the number one overall pick on Thursday, April 26, marking the opening of 2012 draft, which will complete on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
Having finished at the bottom of the league’s points table in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, Colts qualified for the top draft prize of this year.
Luck was welcomed in Colts jersey by general manager, Ryan Grigson, to much excitement of their staff and fans.
He said:
"It's a new era, it's a new beginning. Really, it's exciting and we got our guy. He's the one we feel is going to take us where we want to go with this thing. He shares the same vision that we all do, so we're excited."
Even though the game analysts and officials see him a direct heir to Manning’s throne because of many similarities between the two, Luck got himself excused of going into such an equation and comparison.
The player said:
"You don't really replace a guy like that. You can't. You just try to do the best you can. Obviously, he was my hero growing up."
He added:
"I realize you could go crazy trying to measure yourself to Peyton Manning every day. That would be an insane way to live. I know his legendary status, really."
With taking Luck on board, Colts seem to have settled with their quarterback situation and the managers now intend to finish the rebuilding work, which Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, had started soon after coming out of one of the worst season of the team.
Without Peyton, the team failed badly and was looking for a win until 14th game of the season when they unexpectedly beat the Tennessee Titans to register one.
