2012 NFL draft: Owner Jim Irsay insists Indianapolis Colts yet to make future QB’s choice-NFL News
With the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft around the corner, Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, insists he has not made a final choice regarding their future quarterback, who could either be Stanford College’s QB, Andrew Luck, or Baylor’s Robert
Griffin III (RG3).
The 2012 NFL draft is due to be held later this month and Colts, who have qualified for top draft prize, are said to be in a fix over the decision to chose one of the two leading QBs.
Luck, who had been leading the prospective draft players of this year, has now been joined by RG3, who has steadily emerged as the other top contender of the first draft pick.
This has left Irsay in a difficult situation of making a choice between the two players.
He is said to be keen on making the best choice, given that he foresees the new draft player as to be their future Peyton Manning.
Irsay, who is one of the only few officials in the league that are Twitter’s regular and punctual users, tweeted to confirm that Colts have not made their mind yet.
He tweeted:
"Colts Fans, roster reshaping exciting n producing a very physical MONSTER! Things have always pointed toward #12 but eval process is Open Minded."
In spite of Irsay’s claim that they were still evaluating the players, it is not clear if they are in contact with Griffin III as much as they are with Luck.
Colts’ contingent comprising officials from the front office recently headed to Stanford to view Luck’s exclusive workout.
It is not confirmed from any circle around the league that Colts have had a similar workout with Griffin III.
It remains more crucial to evaluation of Colts' general manager, Ryan Grigson, who due to an unknown illness, could not witness Griffin’s workout during his pro day.
Some commentators believe that Colts have already made their mind about signing Luck, but given Irsay’s nature of holding his cards near to his chest until the very end, the decision is expected to be made public in the final few moments.
A similar amount of uncertainty prevailed regarding the team’s decision of Peyton Manning’s release.
Even though almost all circles were convinced that the player would be released before the $28 million bonus payment deadline of March 08, 2012, Irsay kept denying any final decision made until the second last day of the player’s waivers.
Now, he is probably plying a similar strategy with Luck’s signing.
According to NFL circles, it will be a surprise for the entire football community if Colts do not sign Luck in the draft later this month.
