2012 NFL season: Houston Texans get boost from Matt Schaub’s return – NFL Feature
Houston Texans’ offence leader and quarterback Matt Schaub was not a part of any football activity since November 2011, recovering from a foot injury, until his return to the side at training camp in July.
He sounds to be very confident and raring to go in action in real game conditions. Even more upbeat is the team. It is not just recovery of the QB that has excited the Texans’ coaches and managers; it is his timely return that has been
seen as a welcome development for them.
It is down to the reason that the team faces higher challenges and standards this season. The Texans luckily made it to the playoffs and won their division championship last season, for the first time in their franchise history, and now
it is time for them to progress even further.
What the team achieved last year was without Schaub. He missed the entire latter half of the season due to the foot injury. However, what they are aiming to achieve this year requires presence of the players like Schaub in the squad.
The player has a belief that the team can take big strides towards the Super Bowl title game. He says the squad has the right balance at all positions. The players are excited about the feat they achieved last season and ready for the
challenges of the next one.
Schaub remains hopeful of his potential and possibilities of performing in accordance with requirements of the new challenges. Coach Gary Kubiak also knows he is the man, and has spoken high of his abilities.
Gary says he has his confidence in the incumbent to return to his old fitness and form. As a matter of fact, the coach hopes the challenges associated to recovery from the injury have made him an even better, tougher and stronger player.
Apparently, the expectations from Schaub are very high. If the Texans manage to progress to any level beyond the first round of the playoffs, where they finished last year, it would be a great achievement for them.
Importantly, all seems well set and welcoming for the Texans. As earlier said, it now depends on how Matt Schaub and other players of his class perform.
Schaub no doubt is an elite quarterback. It is rather unfortunate that he is never mentioned along with the quarterbacks of the prime class. He remains the key performer for his team, and almost all the game analysts agree that the time
is not far when he is mentioned in the top 100 NFL rankings.
Schaub's blow the mark rating can be due to the fact that the Texans never managed to step up on the league’s points table.
This has also brought Schaub into the limelight. Since then he has been rated to be a player as rich in talent as any other quarterback in the league. There is no comparison between Schaub and the four-time most valuable player (MVP) Peyton
Manning, but he is more important to his team's wins than probably Manning was for the Indianapolis Colts.
