2012 NFL season: WRs Antonio Browns, Mike Wallace keys to Pittsburgh Steelers success
The Pittsburgh Steelers are aiming for a better run this National Football League (NFL) season, and irrespective of lacking experience at certain positions they are well capable of doing so.
The team at least have one position - the receivers' place - at which all seems perfect. They do not have one but two star players who are immensely rich in talent and have shown through their repeated performances how successful they
can be in pulling off wins for their side.
While Mike Wallace has the experience to exploit to his advantage, Antonio Brown is another player who has got all what it takes to be the most successful receiver in the league.
He is the only player in the NFL history to have recorded 1,000 receiving yards and 1,000 return yards in the same season. The exclusive feat was achieved by him in the 2011 NFL season.
The Steelers have already made a long-term commitment to him by landing him a new deal. So he appears set to start another successful run of his pro career with them.
Let’s not forget veteran Mike Wallace here. In spite of the impressive showing by Antonio last season, Wallace was ahead of him with 69 receptions, including those converted in touchdowns.
No matter he had been through some troubles with the side over his compelling contract matter, this is less likely to affect his form and potential to perform even better. He along with Browns forms a formidable pair in the team’s offence
arrangement, overall.
One advantage the team has is that both players play in a competitive setting and to each other's advantage and strength, rather than performing in isolated and individual capacities.
General manager Kevin Colbert has already spoken high of Antonio’s skills and talent. He as a matter of fact referred to him as the key contributor to the team’s victories for the last couple of years.
He is equally pleased with Wallace’s superb form that he has been displaying for the past successive seasons. He is confident the pair will continue their successful stints. Nevertheless, their performances remain significant to the team’s
future prospects.
Now it is time for the Steelers to break through the lull phase they have been stuck into for the last couple of seasons. The particular dismal points of their performance last season were their consecutive losses to the American Football
Conference (AFC) North division rivals the Baltimore Ravens and then poor performance in front of the Denver Broncos.
The Steelers’ loss against the Broncos in the first round of the playoffs baffled everyone. It is essential for the team to overcome such performances loopholes. The in-between losses are no good development and can again hurt their progression
this season.
The team must exploit strengths of players at the positions such as receivers to boost overall form of the squad. The Steelers rely on their offence and luckily the department has remained safe from the team’s rash pay roster adjustment
this offseason. The experience and players’ strength remains intact.
Meanwhile, both receivers have sounded to be ready to accept this year’s challenge. It is down to their performance during the season that should bear witness to how well they have come to their potentials and the team’s expectations.
