2012 NFL season: With possibility of 4 rookie QBs on starting line NFL looks to repeat history
The National Football League (NFL) will be repeating the history when four rookie quarterbacks start games from their respective teams in 2012 season for the first time since 1950.
The first one to go this year is the Stanford College’s quarterback, Andrew Luck, who has been picked as the top draft prize by the Indianapolis Colts.
It is very much certain that Luck will be their starter from very first game of the season. There is no one in front of him. The team has parted ways with their QB, Peyton Manning, after he served them best for 14 consecutive years.
So, the field is quite wide and open in front of Luck, and there is no argument that he is the starter for Colts.
Robert Griffin III is also most likely to win the starting role from the Washington Redskins. He has landed in Washington DC as a result of the team’s draft pick trade with St. Louis Rams, who had initially qualified for the second draft prize.
There is also a greater likelihood that the Cleveland Browns place Brandon Weeden on the starting line straightaway.
Browns have already hinted at it, and given that their other QB, Colt McCoy, has not been as successful, they are going to waste no time to try Weeden for the role from their very first game of the season.
Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins, who have landed a deal to the draft QB, Ryan Tannehill, have problems on the starting line and given that Tannehill has been rated among top QBs of this season’s draft, they will certainly entrust him the leading role.
Tannehill has been endorsed by Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, as to be a hidden talent and he has got the chance to prove him worthy of the starting role from very first game.
With Dolphins under intense pressure from fans and other members of the local football community, they are expected to try him out at the starting position.
If all the four QBs get the starting positions this season, they will be rewriting the same chapter of the NFL history once again.
