2012 NFL season outlook: Tennessee Titans are back to basics-NFL Feature- Part Three
The Tennessee Titans must be looking to start the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season at the note they had ended the 2011 season.
With the 9-7 recorded the team had come closer to reach the playoffs, during past year, and are said to be aiming to improve from the level this year and achieve what they were unable to a year earlier.
The team, which recently has been in the frenzy of signing former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, has recovered back to their normal and previous year’s situation.
They are aiming to come out as a better unit. By all standards, the minimum target for them could be the playoffs.
The coach, Mike Munchak, has expressed those ambitions at many occasions. A brief review of the squad shows that the Tennessee Titans are one of few teams who are well balanced, with equal amount of strength at all positions.
They have the quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, at the starting position. He has already proved his skills and capability of taking the team to playoffs. Now he could be expected to come out with even better form.
Moreover, the team has an added strength at the quarterback position. Jake Locker, who is coming out into the next season into second year of his career, is going to compete at all levels with Hasselbeck.
He has already proven to be the player of high talent and potential. During couple of the opportunities he has had in absence of Hasselbeck during last year, performed so well that the team at one point had give second thought to the plan of leaving the
starting role to Hasselbeck. A slightest amount of delay and hesitation from Hasselbeck could have landed the position to Locker.
However, he still remains very much on it. Even the coach, Mike Munchak, admitted that both players will be competing for the starting role in the offseason.
So far, there are no speculations or reports around the issue and most likely Hasselbeck will be playing at the number one position when he comes back next season.
Apparently, both of them looked ambitious and ready to face off the challenge of next season. It is pertinent to note here that Hasselbeck was recently put into a difficult situation recently.
Titans in line with talk of signing for Peyton Manning by the owner, Bud Adams, were carried away by the prospects for a week at least.
Hasselbeck all of sudden faced an uncertainty to his future, which was definitely on line in case Manning had decided to join them.
Even the owner admitted that the quarterbacks were put in difficult situation but backed them as to be their main players for the position. He said that he was satisfied with their quarterback situation.
However, all the backing from the owner and other officials of the team had come after the Denver Broncos were confirmed to be the team that Peyton Manning has joined now.
So the owner was left with no chance then to return to the basics. It was wiser of him to have come to the realisation sooner than later.
It is certain now that the management and including the owner have moved out of Manning craze and content with the attack line. It was further approved next day when the team confirmed signing of a new defensive player.
More or less, the team looks now much balanced and by all scenarios is going to be a definite contender for playoffs most likely. The chances of making to the AFC championship and may be Super Bowl can not be ruled either.
