2012 Naked Men will hit stores next week
England Rugby League players stripped down to pose for the Olympic-themed calendar 2012, which has been titled as 2012 Naked Men.
It will hit the shelves of Super League club shops by next week.
Adrian Morley, 2012 testimonial winner, confirmed that this was his idea, to make money for the Wooden Spoon charity, which helps the underprivileged children, and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. The idea was welcomed by almost the entire English
Four Nations’ squad when Morley shared it with them. It appears that the idea is also going to be a big hit amidst rugby league fans as they will happily pay for the calendar which is ambitioning to draw in big money for the noble cause.
Morley has been associated to the Wooden Spoon charity for almost 12 years. He agreed that he took up the inspiration of this calendar from what Warrington Wolves’ Jon Clarke had done last year at the club level for his testimonial. Morley took it to a bigger
level by doing it for England instead, which means that players from different teams are featured in the calendar.
The calendar photographed the greats of the English side including; captain Jamie Peacock, star full-back Sam Tomkins and Australian-based Gareth Ellis, Jack Reed and Chris Heighington, all doing different Olympic disciplines. Also, Ben Westwood, Leroy Cudjoe,
Ryan Hall and Tom Briscoe had participated in the campaign.
It was shared by Morley that the activity was done at Leeds studio, just a day before the Four Nations’ title decider against Australia, which also helped loosening the tension ahead of the big game.
Recalling how it happened, Morley shared, “It was done the afternoon before the final. I was a bit concerned when I asked the boys if they would do it but once training was out of the way, they were long days and they were brilliant. Ryan Hall was first
to do his pose and just got stuck into it, then everyone else did them. The Olympic theme was my idea but my original plan was to do a decathlon plus a picture on a podium and one other, but someone said, 'What about doing different Olympic sports?”
Morley admitted that he is glad with the way pictures have come out.
It will be interesting to see how well-received is the idea, which can only be gauged after the calendar hits the stores.
