2012 National Circuit GP Finals: Amelia Alicia, Fie Cho become Women’s Doubles champion
Women’s Doubles experts Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Soong Fie Cho played impeccable badminton and clinched the trophy in Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals on December 30, 2012.
They were up against the local couple Lydia Cheah Li Ya-Sonia Cheah Su Ya in the title match which took place in Alor Setar, Malaysia.
Both native pairs put a splendid show of skills and wrapped this showdown with an impressive result of 14-21, 23-21 and 21-13.
The twosome of Amelia and Fie Cho was bit confused in the opening game but both partners revived their lost form when it was needed the most and locked the honour.
On the other hand, Lydia and Sonia could not capitalise their first set win and crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
They started their campaign in perfect fashion and bagged first match point with distinction. They unleashed a flurry of productive strokes in the establishing rallies of first set and gained a decent advantage.
This initial lead helped them throughout this game as they swept the table with a significant difference in 21-14 score.
The following game was full of drama as it kept swinging between both contenders all the way to game point situation.
Initially, Lydia and Sonia were in strong position to transform their 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory but then the opposing duo showed a transformed character and turned the tables.
Amelia and Fie Cho did not lose heart after going one down rather they played with great conviction and confounded their competitors with an unbeatable strategy.
Their sluggish start could not put their expedition to halt and both female Malaysian campaigners cruised to victory. They struck hard when it mattered and finished this set with a tight yet decisive margin of 23-21.
The decider was expected to be a nerve-racking contest but it proved a one-sided affair as Amelia-Fie Cho did not give their challengers even a single counter attack opportunity.
They maintained a respectable lead of eight points in most part of the game and sealed a splendid win with 21-13.
This was a wrap and Amelia-Fie Cho earned the top spot on victory stand of Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals.
