2012 Oceania Championships: Luke Charlesworth hammers Nathan David in Men’s Singles second round
New Zealand’s Luke Charlesworth delivered a sensational performance as he hammered Australia’s Nathan David in emphatic fashion in the Men’s Singles second round of 2012 Oceania Championships on Wednesday, February 22, in Australia.
Charlesworth stunned the local shuttler without showing any mercy and ended the contest in straight games by a comprehensive margin on the score board.
In both games, Charlesworth dominated rallies and remained in wonderful control and did not spare even a singles chance for his local challenger to fight back in the match.
In the opening set, Charlesworth did not waste any time in taking a wonderful lead. He played fast and positive badminton in the opening rallies and managed to put pressure on his opponent.
On the other hand, David failed to play his normal game and also could not control the pace of rallies. He committed many unforced errors and remained miles behind on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Charlesworth continued his crushing performance and stretched his lead by manipulating all loopholes of his rival. He remained on track and did not make any mistake throughout the set.
Charlesworth remained positive and focused in the game and bagged the first set with an impressive 21-10 score on the board.
In the second game, David tried to play better badminton by increasing his speed but he failed to control rallies and also could not place his shots in the right areas. He was clearly lacking the power and finishing touch in his strokes.
On the other hand, Charlesworth enjoyed a smooth ride in the opening half of second set and established a wonderful lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Charlesworth did not slow his speed and continued his power play. David had no answer to the aggressive play of his rival and remained far behind on the score board.
Charlesworth did not face any problem in winning the second game with a remarkable 21-10 score on the board.
This straight-set contest ended in the favour of Charlesworth who thrashed his challenger with a comprehensive margin of 21-10 and 21-10.
