2012 Opponent Preview: Arizona Cardinals face New York Jets, Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears
This is the last series of our opponent previews of Arizona Cardinals games. In this edition, we will preview games that Cardinals will play in week 13, 15 and 16.
Cardinals will play St. Louis Rams in week 12, Seattle Seahawks in week 14 and San Francisco 49ers in week 17. All these teams have been previewed before.
Week 13: New York Jets
New York Jets have many core issues to address this season. In the 2011 season, they finished 8-8, mainly because of the lacklustre performance by their offence.
Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez will have to prove his worth after a disappointing season. He also faces some tough competition after the addition of Tim Tebow to the roster.
Jets’ offence does not have a rushing attack capable enough of giving good running game.
Their defensive system has been overhauled and now they play in a 4-3 formation. This change in formation does not sound interesting as the team looks to be more comfortable with the previously used 3-4 system.
When Jets take on Cardinals, they will have a better team on the field.
Head-to-Head
Cardinals and Jets have played only seven games against each other. Cardinals have won twice while Jets have won five times.
Week 15: Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions are upbeat about this season. They are coming in this season with a strong offence.
Last season, Lions finished 10-6. It was an astounding season with their offence enabling them to finish on a positive note.
Their offence looks truly amazing this time as well. They have both strong passing game and superb running attack. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is also one of the best in the league.
On the defensive side, Lions have an average team. Players like Chris Avril will have to perform throughout the season so as to maintain the toughness of the defence.
Facing Cardinals would be a relatively easy task for Lions.
Head-to-Head
Cardinals and Lions have faced each other 62 times. Cardinals have won 24 games and Lions have won 33 games. Five games were tied.
Week 16: Chicago Bears
Although Chicago Bears are coming from an average season, things are looking pretty exciting for them this season.
Bears coaching staff has been completely overhauled. Former defensive coordinator Mike Tice has now become the offensive coordinator after the departure of the strict Mike Martz.
This means that Jay Cutler will be happy and should perform up to his best. Bears offensive team will be the one that will lead the side after many years of dominance by the defensive team. Bears would be a tough nut to crack for Cardinals.
Head-to-Head
Cardinals and Bears have played 90 games versus each other. Cardinals have won 27 while Bears have won 57. Six games were tied.
