2012 Opponent Preview: Arizona Cardinals face Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots
We start new series of Opponent Previews. This time, we will preview the opponents that Arizona Cardinals will face throughout the 2012 season.
The 2008 season was the last time Arizona Cardinals reached the Super Bowl. Since then, it is all down the road for them.
The 2011 season was a regretful period for Cardinals as they had to face many problems.
The biggest drawback was their disturbing quarterback situation. This time, Kevin Kolb and John Skelton are the prominent contenders for the starting QB position
The unfortunate thing is that both of them did not play well enough in the last season to become the soul contender for the starting position.
Cardinals need to sort this out as soon as possible. This season’s output will primarily depend on how the quarterback performs.
The most important player for the Cardinals is their phenomenal wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
Last season, Fitzgerald was able to put some truly amazing numbers, even though he did not get the due support from his quarterback.
Cardinals can reach the playoffs, only if they improve their quarterback play.
Week 1: Seattle Seahawks
This is the game of two teams having similar strengths and weaknesses. Their positives are their wide receivers and negatives are their quarterbacks.
Seahawks have made some changes with the addition of quarterback Matt Flynn into the squad. He is coming from Green Bay Packers. Seahawks will be looking to have a similar performance from Flynn like he did for Packers in his short stint last year.
Defence is a major downside for Seahawks. When compared to the Cardinals’ defence, it is definitely below par.
The team that will show good quarterback play in this game will definitely win. They will play two games against each other this season.
Head-to-Head
Cardinals and Seahawks have played 26 games against each other. Cardinals have won 14 games and Seahawks have won 12.
Week 2: New England Patriots
New England Patriots will be very eager to come on the field after losing the Super Bowl game against New York Giants in the 2011 season.
Patriots’ offence is a powerhouse led by Tom Brady. If he produces results like he did the last season, then Patriots would again be a serious contender for the playoffs.
Cardinals have not won a single game against Patriots in 20 years. They have lost their last five games against Patriots.
Last time these two sides met each other was in the 2008 season. Patriots overpowered Cardinals and won with a massive score of 47-7.
All the odds are stacked against Cardinals and it is justified as this game looks to be a one-sided affair.
Head-to-Head
Patriots and Cardinals have faced each other 12 times. Both teams have won six games each.
