2012 Opponent Preview: Atlanta Falcons face Dallas Cowboys in Week 9, New Orleans Saints in Week 10
Opponent Preview now looks into Atlanta Falcons’ games to be played against Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints.
Week 9: Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys are looking forward to a season in which they will finally win the Super Bowl under the leadership of Tony Romo.
Their roster is certainly capable enough to do that. Both the defensive as well as offensive teams are looking well balanced.
Cowboys’ only weak point in the offence looks to be in the pass rush game. Their interior offensive group slightly lacks the ability to give a title winning performance.
Both their running backs Felix Jones and DeMarco Murray need to give good performances throughout the season. They must stay healthy and consistent.
After a long time, Cowboys’ defensive team is looking to be a more dominant force than their offensive partners.
All the problems their secondary had last season have been resolved. Players like Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr will put pressure through the air. Also DeMarcus Ware will be a monstrous force to deal with at linebacker.
Head-to-head
Falcons and Cowboys have played a total of 24 games against each other. Falcons have won eight games while Cowboys have won 16 games. The two teams have faced each other twice in the playoffs with Cowboys managing to win both of them.
Week 10: New Orleans Saints
Saints and Falcons have always been fierce rivals. Last season, Falcons were badly beaten by Saints. Yet with bounty scandal creating havoc in the Saints’ camp, things could turn around differently this time.
New Orleans Saints are always one of the contenders of the title as they have one of the best quarterbacks currently in the league.
Drew Brees has covered more than 4,000 yards per season throughout his time at Saints. He was named the offensive player of the year for his outstanding performance last season.
After securing a hefty long-term deal, Brees has now also secured his future with Saints, meaning he will be more focused on his game.
Yet, it would be difficult to cope up with the loopholes that have been created after the Bounty Gate Scandal.
Head-to-Head
Falcons and Saints have faced each other on 86 occasions. Falcons have won 46 games while Saints have won 40 games.
