2012 Opponent Preview: Atlanta Falcons face Denver Broncos in Week 2, San Diego Chargers in Week 3
Opponent preview will now look into Week 2 and 3 of Atlanta Falcon’s regular season. They will face Denver Broncos in Week 2 and San Diego Chargers in Week 3.
Both of Falcons' opponents are standing at a relatively same level as far as the availability of talent on the roster is concerned.
Week 2: Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos will be a different team this season as they have a complete change of guards at the quarterback position.
Broncos’ big sensation of last season, Tim Tebow, is no more on the roster. On the other hand, they have acquired services of Peyton Manning, one of the greatest players this game has ever seen.
Having an elite star like Manning will have a major influence on the performance of a number of young players that Broncos currently have on the roster.
Manning’s fitness will be one of the issues that Broncos will keep a close eye on. He is coming back from a major injury that forced him out of the entire 2011 season.
Also, both the offensive team and Manning need time to develop chemistry. Broncos’ offence will be led by different style of play as compared to Tebow’s way of play.
On the other hand, Manning will be accompanying different type of weapons to what he had in his time with Indianapolis Colts.
Broncos have also strengthened their defence with a few good additions to the roster during the offseason.
Head-to-Head
Falcons and Broncos have faced each other 13 times. Falcons have won four games while Broncos have won nine games.
Week 3: San Diego Chargers
San Diego Chargers are preparing for a playoff run as they have added some fantastic players on the roster this offseason.
Last season, Chargers gave miserable performance and finished 8-8, failing to qualify for the playoffs.
Offensive team has been strengthened by the addition of wide receivers Eddie Royal and Robert Meachem. This will certainly help quarterback Philip Rivers. He had a terrible season last year.
Rivers will need to improve his performance this time. Royal will be very useful in case Antonio Gates gets injured again. Running back Ryan Mathews will also have to improve his game after coming from an injury.
Chargers’ defence is bolstered with the addition of Jarret Johnson. He comes in with vast experience and good skills.
Chargers have also drafted two playmakers, Melvin Ingram and Kendall Reyes, in the defensive team.
Head-to-Head
A total of eight games have been played between these two teams. Falcons have won seven games while Chargers have won only once.
