This is the last edition of this series of Atlanta Falcons’ opponent preview of the 2012 season.
In this episode, we will preview games to be played against New York Giants and Detroit Lions in Week 15 and 16 respectively.
Falcons will face New Orleans Saints in Week 13 and Carolina Panthers in Week 14. We have previewed both these opponents before in this series.
Week 15: New York Giants
New York Giants have improved an already good roster, making the defending Super Bowl champions even more strong on the field.
Giants will also be happy with the return of some important players. Also, quarterback Eli Manning made detrimental progress last season. This makes the defending champions a major contender for the title again.
Manning is the most vital part of New York Giants’ offence and he will have some good new players in his team this time.
Giants have added wide receiver Rueben Randle and running back David Wilson in the offensive team. This will give Manning a chance to be even more productive.
The addition of Wilson comes alongside the return of healthy Ahmad Bradshaw, making Giants running game very strong.
The defence will also see the return of their important players that include Prince Amukamara and Terrell Thomas. Their comeback has made Giants’ defence look very impressive.
Head-to-Head
Falcons and Giants have played 21 games versus each other. Falcons have won 10 while Giants have won 11.
Week 16: Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions had a gem of season last year. In the 2011 season, they finished 10-6 and qualified for the playoffs after a gap of 11 seasons.
This was their best regular season record in 15 years. Yet coming into the new season, Lions are faced with some disciplinary issues as many of their players have been at bad side of the law during offseason.
Their offence looks marvellous. Players including Calvin Johnson and Matthew Strafford gave astounding performance last season and will look to improvise even more this season.
When it comes to the defence, Cliff Avril is Lions’ major hope. He has been phenomenal as a defensive end. Ndamukong Suh and Kyle Vanden Bosch also present some good game.
Head-to-Head
Falcons and Lions have faced each other on 34 occasions. Falcons have won 11 times while Lions have won 23 games.
