2012 Opponent Preview: Atlanta Falcons face Oakland Raiders in Week 6, Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9
Opponent preview has reached the middle part of the Atlanta Falcons’ season. In this episode, we will preview games to be played in Week 6 and 8 of the regular season.
Falcons will face Oakland Raiders in Week 6. Week 7 will be their bye. After that they will face Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8.
Week 6: Oakland Raiders
Oakland Raiders have a tough season ahead of them. They are in American Football Conference (AFC) West division which looks to be the most competitive of all.
Raiders have a completely new coaching team and management staff and will be looking for better output under new circumstances.
The offence does have good players, but their inconsistent performances have hurt Raiders badly in the past.
Their quarterback Carson Palmer also has a complete offseason to train himself. He was unable to give good performance after joining Raiders last season.
When it comes to the offence, Darren McFadden is Raiders’ most important player. Yet his health has been an issue throughout his professional career, as he has never played a full season. McFadden is one of the fastest running backs currently
in the league.
Raiders’ defence is looking even worse than the last season with the loss of Kamerion Wimbley. They do have good veterans, but inconsistency has been a major downfall of these old players.
Head-to-Head
Falcons and Raiders have played 12 games against each other. Falcons have come out victorious in five games while Raiders have managed to win seven games.
Week 8: Philadelphia Eagles
After coming from their bye Week, Falcons will be on the road to face Philadelphia Eagles. Although Eagles had good rosters in previous seasons, they failed to fulfil their potential.
Last season, they finished 8-8. Eagles were regretful about not being able to train during the offseason due to the lockout and eventually blamed it for their failure.
This time there should be no excuses as they have a complete offseason to train themselves.
For the defensive team, Eagles have drafted some good quality players including Fletcher Cox. They have also added a veteran Pro Bowl middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans. This will give them a much needed stiffness.
Head-to-Head
Falcons and Eagles have faced each other 30 times.  Falcons have won 12 games and Eagles have won 17 games. One game ended in a tie.
