2012 Opponent Preview: Dallas Cowboys face Atlanta Falcons in Week 9
After hosting the New York Giants in Week 8 game, the Dallas Cowboys will travel to face the Atlanta Falcons for Week 9 game.
Falcons won  10 games in the 2011 regular season, and qualified for the playoffs as the second best team in the National Football Conference (NFC) South, behind the New Orleans Saints.
Falcons performed miserably in their playoff game and lost to the New York Giants in a humiliating way, but they were still better than the Cowboys as the latter had not even qualified for the playoffs.
To win the game in the upcoming season, the Cowboys can use the same technique the Giants used against the Falcons in the playoff game.
The Cowboys must be strong on the defence. If they contain the Falcons’ offence then it will not be difficult for them to seal the victory as quarterback Tony Romo is expected to provide a few scoring opportunities.
As for Falcons, they can also win the game if they overcome their flaws. If they are strong on the offence they can easily win the encounter.
Head-to-head
Cowboys and Falcons have faced each other in 24 games. In their regular season meetings, Cowboys have won 14 games while Falcons have eight victories to their credit. Both teams have faced each other twice in playoffs and Cowboys have won both of them. Falcons
and Cowboys are going to play only one game in the 2012 season.
Last meeting
Cowboys hosted Falcons in Week 7 game of the 2009 season. It was a high-scoring game that saw very good offensive performances from both teams.
The first quarter of the game was pretty tight for both offences. The Falcons got the only scoring move of the quarter as they scored a touchdown to take the lead.
The Cowboys, however, dominated the entire second quarter. They scored a field goal at first to reduce the lead and then managed two touchdowns to take a healthy advantage. Falcons did not get any scoring move in the quarter.
Falcons and Cowboys scored a touchdown each in the third quarter as the Cowboys maintained the lead.
In the final quarter, Cowboys got two touchdowns and a field goal while Falcons got only one touchdown. The final score 37-21 settled in favour of Cowboys.
