2012 Opponent Preview: Dallas Cowboys to take on New Orleans Saints in Week 16
Dallas Cowboys will host another playoff contender, New Orleans Saints, in Week 16 game of the 2012 regular season before facing Washington Redskins in their final game.
Since the game is going to take place towards the end of the season, we might have a clear picture of what is happening around the league. The fate of some teams will have been decided while some will still be waiting for their respective regular season
finales.
The Saints have a better team than the Cowboys, but this game will not depend on how these teams look at the moment. Instead it will be their respective performances throughout the regular season that will set the tempo of this game.
The Saints did not have a very good offseason as they made the headlines over the Bounty Gate scandal. Their reputation was hurt badly and some players and officials were also suspended.
However, this will not prevent quarterback Drew Brees, who was among the elite quarterbacks last season, from leading his team effectively. He has already secured a hefty deal from the team and with no threats about job security he will be able to focus
only on his performance.
As for Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, this will be a chance to prove his talent and silence his critics. However, Romo will definitely need support from his defence if the Cowboys want victory in this game.
Head-to-head
Cowboys and Saints have faced each other in 24 games. The Cowboys have 15 victories to their credit while the Saints have won nine games. These teams have never faced each other in playoffs. Cowboys and Saints are going to play only one game in the 2012
season.
Last meeting
Cowboys hosted Saints in Week 12 game of the 2010 season. It was a high-scoring game that was initially dominated by the Saints, but the Cowboys did well to hit back.
Saints got two touchdowns and a field goal in the first quarter while Cowboys could not get any scoring move. In the second quarter, Saints got another field goal while Cowboys also managed two field goals.
Cowboys got two touchdowns in the third quarter while Saints again managed a field goal. In the final quarter, both teams scored a touchdown each.
The final score 30-27 settled in favour of Saints.
