2012 Opponent Preview: Philadelphia Eagles face Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14
Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ campaign in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season was an utter humiliation. They started the season in an amazing manner by winning four of their first six games.
However, they did not win any other game in that season and ended it on a 10-game losing streak. Their 4-12 record placed them at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) South.
It is expected that by the time they will face Philadelphia Eagles in the 2012 season, the Bucs would have ended this losing streak, but that will not give them any edge over the Eagles.
The Bucs were sluggish on defence and pathetic on offence during the 10 games they lost consecutively and, although they have added a number of veterans in their squad, it will not be an easy task to challenge the Eagles.
Owing to the recent additions on the roster, some analysts have even said that the Bucs could win the NFC South in the 2012 season, but for their claim to materialise, the Bucs will need to be disciplined on the field.
As far as Eagles are concerned, they have better players than Tampa Bay on offence as well as on defence. The Eagles, however, must refrain from complacency.
By the time these two teams face each other, the situation in the NFC South and NFC East will be a bit clear and we will know where the results of this encounter will take both these teams.
Head-to-Head
Eagles and Buccaneers have only faced each other 15 times. Eagles have won eight games, while Buccaneers have seven victories to their credit. Both these teams have faced each other four times in playoffs and both have won two games each.
They are going to play only one game in the 2012 season.
Last meeting
The last meeting between Eagles and Buccaneers took place in the 2009 season. Eagles dominated the game right from the start and scored a touchdown in the first quarter and, added two more in the second. The Bucs got their first scoring move in the second quarter when they scored a touchdown.
Eagles scored another touchdown in the third quarter and managed a field goal and safety points in the final quarter, in which Buccaneers scored their second touchdown of the game. The final score 33-14 settled in favour of the Eagles.
