2012 Opponent Preview: Seattle Seahawks face San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions
In the first half of the 2012 season, Seattle Seahawks have a very tough schedule. They will play four out of five games on road between Week 4 and Week 8.
In the month of October, they will play just one home game which would not be of much help as they face potential title contenders New England Patriots.
In this space, we will preview games that will be played in Week 7 and 8 of Seahawks regular season.
Week 7: San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco had an outstanding 2011 season. They finished the season 13-3 and were on top of the National Football Conference (NFC) West standings. It was the first time in eight years that they qualified for the playoffs.
The most significant performance throughout last season was given by 49ers’ defence. They were crucial in the team’s progress to the playoffs.
Quarterback Alex Smith was superb throughout last season as he gave his career-best performance to lead the team.
On the defensive side, they have a very talented and disciplined team. 49ers defensive record was one of the best in the league last season.
With coach Jim Harbaugh leading the team, 49ers looks to be more disciplined than before.
The game against Seahawks will be a comfortable contest for 49ers, especially considering the fact that they will be playing at home.
Head-to-Head
Seahawks and 49ers have played 26 games against each other. Both teams have won 13 games each.
Week 8: Detroit Lions
The 2011 season was a marvellous one for Detroit Lions. They finished the season 10-6. It was their best performance in 15 years. They qualified for the playoffs after an 11-season drought.
Lions’ offence is considered as one of the most thrilling in the entire league. This time Lions are ready to take on the big guns for the title, but only on the basis of their offence.
They have players like Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford who are capable enough to take the team to the next level.
However, their defence has to improve if they want to have some chance of reaching the Super Bowl. Although they have players like Cliff Avril, they do not have much depth on the roster.
Head-to-Head
Seahawks and Lions have faced each other 11 times. Seahawks have won seven games while Lions have won just four.
