2012 Opponent Preview Week 1: Houston Texans face Miami Dolphins
In this series, we will preview all the opponents Houston Texans will face in the 2012 regular season.
Texans are coming from a season in which they qualified for the playoffs for the first time in the franchise history. They were able to finish the regular season 10-6.
They seemed to have played their best football ever in the 2011 season. Everything seemed to be perfect about them. Yet, the 2012 season roster looks quite different from the one they had last season. Texans have lost a good number of
their prominent players this offseason.
Among those players are Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Joel Dreessen, Lawrence Vickers and Eric Winston.
Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans are a big loss to an elite defence which was ranked atop the entire league last year.
The defensive backfield is not looking good. Young players like Connor Barwin and Shaun Cody will have to improve continuously in order give better output.
Last season, the offensive team saw both their starting and backup quarterback getting injured. Starter Matt Schaub missed the last six games of the regular season.
On the other hand, Texans most productive wide receiver Andre Johnson also missed most of the season due to an injury.
Considering the amount of injuries Texans faced during the last season, it will be appropriate to predict that if most of Texan’s major players remain fit throughout the season then this team could go to the Super Bowl.
However, one may also have to consider the fact that the loss of high profile players at important positions might hurt them. The output of the rookies and how quickly they adjust with the league’s environment could determine the Texans’
faith this season.
Week 1: Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins are one of the teams that have not strengthened their roster to a great extent this offseason. Last season they finished with a miserable 6-10.
Dolphins faced the starting quarterback competition throughout the offseason and the players were not able to train with any one quarterback considering he would be their starter.
Texans are capable of giving strict competition to the Dolphins and have the potential to win this game.
Head-to-Head
Texans and Dolphins have played six games against each other. Texans have won all the games.
