2012 Opponent Preview Week 1: New York Jets face Buffalo Bills
Our opponent preview series returns as we now preview the opponents New York Jets will face throughout the regular season.
New York Jets are a rejuvenated side coming into this season. They have added a couple of players that could make or break their season.
Last season they finished with a disappointing 8-8. After such an average performance, Head Coach Rex Ryan needed to make some positive changes on the roster.
The management did exactly that and added quarterback Tim Tebow to the roster. Tebow is coming from a sensational breakout season at Denver Broncos.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez did not have a very good 2011 season. He was not very productive with Jets’ previous offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Yet with the addition of new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, things look to change
in the offensive system. This could be good news for Sanchez who will face tough competition from Tebow for the starting position.
Throughout the offseason, Jets made the headlines for their starting quarterback debate. Even the US President Barack Obama did not hesitate to comment on this matter.
In this offseason we have seen Tebow playing in the red zone as well as in the special team as a punt returner. Recently in training camp, Tebow played as a goal-line quarterback and did well in that position.
Jets’ receiving corps will be vulnerable if Santonio Holmes remains absent due to injury. The running game also lacks skills needed to attain success in the league, as Shonn Greene looked unimpressive last season.
The defensive line has shown good productivity under Ryan and things continue to look this way this season.
Rookie Yeremiah Bell and LaRon Landry will have to play well as they will get chances to start.
Week 1: Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills will look to cater the problems their defence faced in the 2011 season. The defence gave diminishing performance especially during the latter part of the season.
Bills had a good start to the last season but failed to capitalise and finished 6-10.
Bills are hoping to see an even better performance from Stevie Jackson as he has signed a long term-contract.
Bills have a strong defensive line with the addition of Mario Williams and Mark Anderson. Jets and Bills will play against each other twice this season.
