2012 Opponent Preview: Week 1 Washington Redskins face New Orleans Saints
In this new series, we look in to the opponents Washington Redskins will face throughout the 2012 season.
Washington redskins had a disaster of a season last year. They finished the 2011 season 5-11. It was not a surprise as they went on the field with average players.
This offseason, Redskins were desperate to get a quality player that could lead them to a better future. Desperate time needs desperate measures, and this was exactly the case with Redskins.
They traded their no. 6 overall draft pick with St. Louis Rams’ no.2. After getting the second overall pick, Redskins drafted Robert Griffin III (RG3), an exciting talent with reputation of being a true professional.
RG3 is coming with an outstanding record in college football and has won many awards for his consistent performance. He has been getting appreciation and good remarks by the league’s Hall of Famers. Many analysts believe that he is mature
enough to give better output in his rookie year.
Yet, rookies do take time to adjust, but a player like RG3 will be very different in the last week of his rookie season as compared to his first. With RG3 in the team, Redskins will be looking for change of fortune for their offensive
team.
He will have to curtail a grim situation in the offensive team. They have average players at running back position, making it difficult for RG3 to provide a good end result. Although wide receivers are talented, they do have the tendency
to be sloppy at times.
On the defensive side, the overall situation is far better. They have good players at linebacker. There are some question marks about their secondary, because apart from DeAngelo Hall, there is not much talent to go with.
Week 1: New Orleans Saints
Whatever one might say about them, one thing is for sure that New Orleans Saints will be very different this season.
They will enter the field without their beloved head coach. Also, many of their influential players are suspended because of “Bounty Gate” Scandal.
Yet, they still have their quarterback Drew Brees. He will have a huge responsibility to take the team forward this season.
Saints’ offensive power would be very threatening, especially for Redskins. On the other side, Griffin will also be looking to have a great time against Saints.
Head-to-Head
The two teams have played 23 games against each other. Redskins have won 15 games and Saints have won 8 games.
