2012 Opponent Preview Week 4 & 5: New York Jets face San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans
As our opponent preview series of New York Jets continues, we will now look into games that will be played in Week 4 and 5 of the regular season.
We have previously previewed games that will be played in the first three weeks of the regular season.
Jets will play against San Francisco 49ers in Week 4 and in Week 5 they will face Houston Texans. Jets will have home-field advantage in both these games.
After being on road for two consecutive weeks, Jets will not have much time to rest as they will be against two quality opponents that will be very difficult to beat.
Week 4: San Francisco 49ers
Last season San Francisco 49ers surprised many as they went on to win as many as 13 games in the regular season.
They won the National Football Conference (NFC) West title and went into the playoffs in a style.
With the new head coach Jim Harbaugh, the 49ers looked to be a completely different side last year and they hope to build their strength further this time.
49ers’ receiving corps looks promising with Mario Manningham, Randy Moss and A.J. Jenkins leading the way. Fortunately for 49ers, all the starters of the defensive team last season will return to the field this time.
Quarterback Alex Smith had the best season of his entire career last year and he is the one who has to give stunning performance if 49ers want to have any chance of winning the Super Bowl.
Week 4: Houston Texans
Houston Texans did not have a very good offseason; they lost their main player in the offensive line Eric Winston to Kansas City Chiefs. Last season they finished 10-6.
This was not the only loss they had. They also lost Mario Williams, rather surprisingly, from the defensive team due to salary cap reasons.
Also the departure of DeMeco Ryans makes the defence even more vulnerable. It will be difficult for them to retain themselves as the league’s best defence.
Defensive backfield is left with a lot of young players. Players like Shaun Cody and Connor Barwin will have to take up their game to the next level if they want to stand any chance to succeed.
